While we may not know its specific outputs in various trim levels, the engine destined for the new Nissan GT-R is designated the VQ37HRDETT. This tells us a lot more about the engine than one might think at quick glance. A good place to start is to divide up the engine code as follows: VQ 37 HR D E TT VQ is the engine series. VQ series are all aluminum, 4-valve per cylinder V6’s. 37 is the Displacement, which translates to 3.7 liters. H and R have unknown meanings at this time. D means DOHC (Dual Overhead Cams). E means multi-port fuel injection. TT means the engine will be equipped with twin turbochargers. We can continue speculating all day from here, but we know that the car gives a 997 Porsche 911 turbo (480hp) a run for its money. Output will probably be between 480 and 520 hp. While the old Skyline used a RB series motor, and the VQ is different in many regards, if anything holds true, tuners should be able to extract far more power on the stock internals.
